Tour Green City Growers, 5800 Diamond Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44104 (http://evergreencooperatives.com/business/green-city-growers/): Green City Growers Cooperative Inc., part of the Evergreen Cooperatives, is a 3.25-acre leafy greens, hydroponic greenhouse in the Central neighborhood of Cleveland. The greenhouse, which officially opened on February 25, 2013, also has 15,000 square feet of packinghouse and office space, and employs 15 worker-owners.

We will also discuss the role of the Cleveland Foundation and the larger community network– the Greater University Circle Initiative – that created the enabling environment for these projects. Panelists are:

10:45 Panel – Challenges of Putting Anchor Institution Strategy into Practice: The Turnaround Experience of Evergreen Energy Solutions: (Moderator: Steve Dubb) Brief presentations from various players with Evergreen Energy Solutions, a third Evergreen Cooperative. This panel will provide the opportunity to discuss the challenges and complications that Evergreen Energy Solutions has experienced and what a successful turnaround looks like. Airport Information
Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE): http://www.clevelandairport.com/Home.aspx
Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) is the only airport that serves the city and is connected to downtown by the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority’s (RTA) Red Line (see map below and also: http://www.riderta.com/routes/redline). The trip from CLE to downtown (get off at the Tower City Station) costs $2.25 one way and takes less than 30 minutes. Trains depart from CLE every 15 minutes for the majority of the day. RTA's station at CLE is located on the lower level of the main terminal. To reach the RTA station, use the elevators or escalators located in the center of the ticketing and baggage claim levels. Once you arrive in downtown at Tower City Station, go up the escalators, towards the casino, and exit the building at Public Square. From there, you can walk three fifths of a mile (about 15 minutes) to the hotel, take a free E-line trolley down Euclid Avenue to the hotel at 12th, or take the BRT HealthLine (cost is $2.25) and get off at 14th Street stop on Euclid (more information below in transportation section)
To take a taxi from the airport to downtown Cleveland and our hotel takes about 20 minutes and will cost between $40-$50.

Bus Service and Site Visit
We have arranged to have a bus take all participants from the hotel to the meeting location on both Thursday and Friday. Please meet in the hotel lobby each morning promptly at 8:00 a.m. for bus departure to our meeting location. On Thursday afternoon the bus will return to the hotel at 5:30 p.m. and on Friday afternoon it will return to the hotel at 4 p.m. We will also be using the bus for our site visits and tour on Thursday afternoon from 3:00 until 5:30. We will be visiting factory floors and will be in and out of doors, so please wear close-toed shoes and a warm jacket.
Expense Arrangements
Please note that as participants in the Learning/Action Lab you are responsible for your own hotel, transportation, and food costs. As part of the Lab, the sponsors will be providing certain meals (as specified on the Agenda) and paying for these. Other food costs are your responsibility.
Weather
Cleveland weather in the winter can be very cold and snowy. The forecast for our time there shows highs in the mid-30s to mid-40s with lows in the 20s with a small chance of precipitation. The weather can be quite changeable, so please check the weather in advance, bring layers and dress accordingly.
Transportation Information
Public transit in Cleveland consists of four different train (“Rapid”) lines, a comprehensive bus system, a bus rapid transit (BRT) line known as the HealthLine down Euclid Ave., and five free trolley lines downtown. Route information and maps can be found at the RTA website (www.riderta.com). Keep in mind that Cleveland's downtown is very walkable and generally safe, especially during daylight hours. Bus transportation will be provided for the meetings and site visits on Thursday and Friday.
