The first day of our meeting, we will visit the Spokane Reservation and spent the afternoon digging in to social enterprise business concepts. On the second day of our meeting, each project team will have a half hour to update the group on their progress and receive feedback. 9:30 Arrive Two Rivers Gorge: visit tribally owned marina and cabins, etc.
10:00 Depart Two Rivers for Wellpinit.
10:30 Arrive Spokane Administration Building: A guided tour from our hosts on Spokane of their operations and of the Trading Post, along with other notable areas on the Reservation.
12:00 p.m. Opening Blessing and Lunch.
12:30 Welcome: Ted Howard and our hosts.

1:15 Introduction and Overview of the Afternoon: What’s different about Social Enterprise? Marjorie Kelly will set the tone for the afternoon with a discussion of social enterprise business concepts and how social enterprise is unique and what it means to do business within a social enterprise frame.
1:45 Business Basics: Jill Bamburg will walk through a number of key concepts for using numbers to make business decisions when running a social enterprise. Topics include:

9:30 Preparing your employees to own the social enterprise: Real World Open Book Management: work through the reality of empowering your employees by implementing open book management (OBM) for your business with Megan White, General Manager of the Main Market Coop in Spokane, who has introduced OBM to her employees.
10:30 Break
10:45 Group project updates: The first three of the five participating organizations will have 15 minutes to present on the progress of their projects, including details on the financial reporting of their projects, and 15 minutes for dialogue with the group. Business experts will be on hand to provide feedback.

1:45 Open Space/Group Coaching Sessions: As at our last gathering in Pine Ridge, Jill Bamburg will lead a self-organizing session where groups will have the opportunity to design together how to use this time – having a group coaching session, working with an expert, group dialogue on keys topics, or some combination of all of these. We may choose to respond to some of the themes we heard on the previous day through sessions on the most important topics. Teams might also want to opt out for in-depth discussions with specific resource people.

There is also a bus (Bus 60) that goes from the airport to downtown that runs every half hour, costs $1.50 one way, and takes roughly 30 minutes to get downtown. You can pick the bus up at Concourse C and will get off at Washington Street at Spokane Falls Blvd. to get to the hotel. You can find bus schedules at: https://www.spokanetransit.com/. Our hotel also offers a shuttle service to and from the airport, but it has to be reserved in advance and costs $25.00 one way. Meeting Times and Locations
We will be having our meetings in different locations on each day, but will begin each day at the same location, in Meeting Room 1 on the ground floor of the Davenport Grand. On Wednesday, December 2, we will be leaving for a tour of the Spokane Indian Reservation promptly at 8am. We will have a full, hot breakfast provided for all participants at the hotel in Meeting Room 1 starting at 7am. Please join us before 8am for breakfast and to meet to board the bus. From there we travel to the Spokane Indian Reservation, an hour and a half away from downtown, where we will spend our morning touring relevant sites and our afternoon meeting at the Spokane Tribal Administration Building. On Thursday, December 3 we will be meeting all day in Meeting Room 1 on the ground floor of the Davenport Grand, beginning with a breakfast at 8:30. Our time together will conclude with a closing dinner on the evening of December 3 in downtown Spokane. We have arranged to have a bus take us from the hotel to the Spokane Indian Reservation on Wednesday, December 2. Please meet in Meeting Room 1 on the ground floor of the Davenport Grand for a hot breakfast starting at 7am. The bus will depart promptly at 8am and return to the hotel no later than 6:30pm the same day, and will pick us up and drop us off in the bus turn around in front of the Convention Center on West Spokane Falls Boulevard.

Closing Dinner
For our closing dinner on the evening of Thursday, December 3, we will be meeting in a private room at Luigi’s Italian Restaurant (http://luigis-spokane.com/) located at 245 West Main in downtown Spokane, just two blocks from our hotel. We request that all groups stay through this closing dinner and wait to depart until after 8:30pm that evening, or on Friday, December 4. See the agenda for more details.
Weather
December in Spokane can be both cold and wet. At the moment the forecast for our time there shows highs in the mid-30s to low-40s, with lows in the 20s, and chances of scattered rain and snow storms at the end of the week. Please check the weather before you arrive and be sure to bring layers and cold weather clothes.
Expense Arrangements
Please note that as participants in the Learning/Action Lab you are responsible for your own hotel, transportation, and food costs. As part of the Lab, the sponsors will be providing certain meals (as specified on the Agenda) and will be paying for these. Other food costs are your responsibility.
