Logistics
Airport Information
Portland International Airport (PDX): http://www.portofportland.com/PDX_Home.aspx
Portland International Airport (PDX) is the only airport that serves the city and is about a half hour drive away from downtown and the Pearl District where our hotel is located, or a 45minute – hour long ride on public transportation. Our hotel does not provide a shuttle to and from the airport. A variety of taxi providers can be found in the center section of the airport terminal's lower level near the baggage claim. Fares are approximately $30-40. Portland’s TriMet public transportation system is affordable and efficient and departs directly from the airport every 10-15 minutes. Follow signs in the airport to get to the Max Light Rail station which is in the arrival hall near baggage carrousel number 2. A one-way fare from the airport to downtown cost $2.50. To get to our hotel, take the red line to City Center where you will transfer to the Green Line to Union Station. The hotel is roughly a 10 minute walk from Union Station. Find out more about Portland’s public transportation system below in this memo, and about transportation from the airport here: http://www.portofportland.com/PDX_Grnd_Trnsprtn.aspx
Hotel Information
We have set aside a block of rooms for our whole group at the Residence Inn Downtown/Pear District. Located in downtown Portland, near the banks of the Willamette River, the Pearl District is quite walkable and offers a variety of restaurants, galleries, and shops nearby.

Shuttle bus service to and from the hotel and meeting location will be provided (see below for detail). More information on NAYA and their location can be found in the “site visit” section of the binder.

Bus Service
We have arranged to have a bus take all participants from the hotel to the meeting location on both Wednesday and Thursday. Expense Arrangements
Please note that as participants in the Learning/Action Lab you are responsible for your own hotel, transportation, and food costs. As part of the Lab, the sponsors will be providing certain meals (as specified on the Agenda) and paying for these. Other food costs are your responsibility.
Closing Dinner
Rather than having an opening dinner the night before our meeting begins as we have done in the past, this time we will be having a closing dinner on the evening of Thursday, November 13. Our dinner will be held at Ecotrust (http://www.ecotrust.org/), located at 721 NW 9th Avenue, just 3 blocks away from our hotel. We request that all groups stay through this closing dinner and wait to depart until after 8:30pm that evening. See the agenda for more details.
Weather
Portland is a temperate and humid city and, at this time of year, there is a high likelihood of rain on a daily basis. Please be sure to check the weather in advance, but at the moment the forecast for our time there shows highs in the mid-50s to low-60s with lows in the 40s and partly sunny most days until Thursday when there is a chance of precipitation. Be sure to bring layers and rain attire.
Transportation Information
Portland’s TriMet public transportation system is fairly comprehensive and comprised of buses, a light rail system (that connects to the airport), and a streetcar system that runs in the Pearl District, City Center, the Waterfront District and elsewhere. A two-hour fare costs $2.50, and you can also buy a day pass for $5 or 5 day passes for $25. Buses, rail, and streetcars run every 15 minutes throughout the day. Portland’s downtown is also quite walkable and safe. You can find maps, hours, determine fares, and plan routes at: http://trimet.org/index.htm. A map of transit in the Downtown area is attached below.
